Quantitative Motor Examination in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus Patients
نویسندگان
چکیده
1.1 Purpose Normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is a neurologic disorder that causes three groups of progressive symptoms that are very disabling: gait and balance problems leading to falls, urinary incontinence, and dementia. This condition is in urgent need of clarification, because while the diagnosis of NPH is very difficult to make with confidence, the gait and postural instability caused by NPH can respond to neurosurgical treatment. The purpose of the present project is to develop methods to improve our ability to diagnose NPH and predict patients' response to neurosurgical treatment.

Comparing the Efficiency of Two Treatment Methods of Hydrocephalus: Shunt Implantation and Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy
Introduction: Hydrocephalus is one of the most common diseases in children, and its treatment requires brain operation. However, the pathophysiology of the disease is very complicated and still unknown. Methods: Endoscopic Third Ventriculostomy (ETV) and Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt (VPS) implantation are among the common treatments of hydrocephalus. In this study, Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) hyd...
متن کاملMotor evoked potentials in the preoperative and postoperative assessment of normal pressure hydrocephalus.
Motor evoked potentials and central motor conduction time (CMCT) were examined from both upper and lower limbs in patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus to find a predictor for the success of shunting procedures. The hypotheses that walking disturbances are due to pyramidal tract compression as well as the possibility that the upper limbs are affected subclinically in these patients were a...
متن کاملThe grading of normal pressure hydrocephalus.
PATIENTS AND METHOD During a period of 15 years we investigated 200 patients suspected of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) by means of an intrathecal infusion test. In 107 patients (54%) the diagnosis of a normal pressure hydrocephalus could be confirmed. For the evaluation of the course of disease we used the Black-Grading-Scale for shunt assessment [1] and the clinical grading for chronic ...
متن کاملAsymmetric and Upper Body Parkinsonism in Patients with Idiopathic Normal-Pressure Hydrocephalus
Background and PurposezzOur aims were to analyze the characteristics of parkinsonian features and to characterize changes in parkinsonian motor symptoms before and after the cerebrospinal fluid tap test (CSFTT) in idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (INPH) patients. MethodszzINPH subjects were selected in consecutive order from a prospectively enrolled INPH registry. Fifty-five INPH patien...
متن کاملA Case and Literature Review of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus in Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
Normal Pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is characterized by gait apraxia, urinary incontinence, and dementia. Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease that has never been reported to cause NPH. Our patient was a 67-year man with a one-year history of gradual worsening gait and balance, urinary urgency with urge incontinence and decreased short-term memory. P...
